This festival is not only the biggest Māori event showcasing the very best and excellence of our ahurea Māori, it was the chance to awhi our whānau in real life. Four years of pandemic living, climate change events – i te noho marara tātou mo te nuinga o te wā. Pile on top our grief for our whānau in Kahungunu, Te Tai Rāwhiti and Te Tai Tokerau due to Kapereira, and the emotional reconnection and wairua lift was just what we needed to push on to do what we do – look after each other.
