With support from the Booster Foundation, we are excited to share the launch of Te Aka Matua, our business programme we’ve developed to support pakihi Māori and entrepreneurs in Rotorua – with 15 placements available within the inaugural cohort!
As Māori, we are entrepreneurs by nature, and with the decline in our economy, many of our whānau have turned to entrepreneurship as a way to build intergenerational wealth.
Te Aka Matua symbolises the upward trajectory of business growth and the limitless opportunities that stem from this. It is a supportive pou for whānau who are navigating the business world for the first time, providing a kaupapa-Māori space where you can safely share your struggles, explore ideas, and learn new tools and skills to realise your whānau aspirations.
Consisting of both in-person wānanga and one-on-one coaching sessions, Te Aka Matua provides a comprehensive kick-start for pakihi growth including the following:
- In-depth analysis of your pakihi or business idea with guidance from expert mentors.
- Comprehensive business plan that aligns with the aspirations of your whānau.
- Essential knowledge and understanding of business accounts and financial management.
- Compelling whakapuaki (business pitch) to effectively communicate your vision.
- Whakawhanaungatanga with other pakihi Māori in your rohe.
Te Aka Matua is more than just a business programme —it’s a place where potential pakihi can thrive in a safe and supportive environment, so together we can build sustainable, intergenerational wealth for whānau and ngā mokopuna mō apōpō.
